Daily Practice

Today I want to talk to you about Daily Practice. One of the things people often ask me is:

“When can I give up personal development? When I will make it to the place where I just get this consistent momentum in my life?”.

The truth is NEVER. You’re never going to get there if you have that type of mindset. Personal development is like a daily practice. It’s something you need to get inside your mind, ritualize it and then embody it. And you need to consistently do this.

It’s like going to the gym. If you just went to the gym, did 200 bench presses and then went home that evening, 2 weeks later the result would vanish. It’s like if you went to salsa for six lessons, you got the rhythm down pat but then two years later you went out on the dance floor and realized all those tricks and tips vanished.

Your mind is quite a malleable substance. It has this neuro-plasticity to it. Your mind only deals in what’s important to it at any given time. So if you stop doing something important, your mind will in fact actually take over that real-estate.

So if you don’t want the real-estate in your mind to be taken over of your personal development efforts, you have to make it a daily practice. Which means every day you must be doing something.

So set aside 10 minutes, 5 minutes even. If you can make it up to 30 minutes a day where you can do something of a self development nature. It might just be contemplation, meditation or visualization. It might be reading or going for a walk in the bush. Whatever it is, make it a Daily Practice. If you can make it a daily practice, you will in fact really reap the benefits.

I will finish with a quote from Zig Ziglar. He was once presenting to an audience. Someone put their hand up and said “hey Zig, this motivation thing doesn’t last forever.” Without skipping a beat Zig said “neither does bathing, and that’s why we recommend it daily”.

So get the message, understand it, make it a daily practice, schedule it into your time and start doing it every single day and you will definitely get the benefits of self development and personal development.

Unstill we meet again smile often live you love and do whatever it takes to be our own best friend. I’ll see you soon
